Piranha-thon 2018
Day: July 4th
Time: 9:00am
Where: Mansion House Pool
This year our Piranha’s will be raising money to support the Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services Children’s Resource Program. Each swimmer is asked to gather pledges for each lap swum during the event. A pledge form will be attached below. Pledges can be for each lap swum or for a set amount.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES MATTER! GSH ensures that children in their housing programs do not miss out on critical after-school and extracurricular enrichment activities simply because their families are on a tight budget. These activities open children up to a range of experiences that help them develop into well-rounded adults.
Example: Through the Children's Resources program, rising fourth grader Tiana attended the Reading Skills Program at Bishop Ireton High School. The program, which is offered by the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and taught by the Institute of Reading Development, helps students improve reading comprehension, and teaches them to read and understand textbooks and other nonfiction writings. Tiana's participation in the program strengthened her reading skills and greatly advanced her reading level.
All funds raised will be used for children’s camps and activities.
New this year: In order for the donors to get a tax donation we have arranged for checks to be made payable to Good Shepherd Housing. Representatives from GSH will be on site the day of the swim and will be able to accept credit card donations at that time as well.
A tax donation receipt will be sent from GSH to the donors directly.
Volunteers will be needed to count laps and serve refreshments, a sign up will be posted soon.
Sincerely,
Margaret Virostek
Jr. Coach, MHC
