Winter Swim: Fins and Kickboards

Good Morning Polar Piranhas Parents:

So far so good Sunday nights at GW Rec Center. We hope everyone is having fun.

We have determined we are going to add fins and kickboards to our Sunday Practices.

The use of fins and kickboards aids the swimmers to work on technic and allows them to utilize muscle memory to properly execute each kick and stroke for the various disciplines. It is very likely that the use of fins and boards will be used in the summer as well for the swim team, this is not just a winter investment.

With that being said we are going to ask that each swimmer have a pair of fins and a kickboard. (Please put your name on each, with a Sharpie, as they get mixed up on deck and often left behind) Our hope is everyone has both by October 17th. As soon as your swimmer has theirs, they are welcome to bring them to practice and Coach Joel and his staff will start to have those swimmers use them immediately.

Note: Not required but mesh swim bags come in handy to keep everything organized and allow it to dry.

What Kind of Fins and Board?

Solid kickboard. Brand or style isn’t a concern. These usually run $10-$20. No need to break the bank on them.

Please get long fins such as these. Not snorkeling fins, or short fins. Their foot should completely go inside like a shoe. If you have questions let us or coach Joel know.

Where to get fins and boards (and if you want a mesh bag)?

You can get them from:

  • SwimOutlet: www.swimoutlet.com (appears to be having some sales right now on both fins and boards)
  • Amazon
  • Sports Fair:

https://www.sportfairusa.com/

5010 Lee Highway

Arlington, VA 22207

  • Dicks Sporting Goods You can try, but I'm not sure what they might have.

Again Please let us know if you have questions
