Almost time! Updates, reminders, and FAQs
May 7th
Hello Piranha-nation! Summer swim practice starts in just THREE WEEKS!
Ready to get ready? Here are some FAQs and tips:
1. What's happening and when? Check out this season's calendar HERE. Go ahead and mark your swimmer(s) availability and choose your volunteer jobs now! Best view is on deck and we can't run meets without you.
2. What does my swimmer need for practice/meets? We are so glad you asked! Every swimmer should have a competition style suit (make sure the suit fits and will stay in place when they are swimming/diving. Suits should be snug fitting to reduce drag), kickboard, a pair of fins, at least 2 pairs of good goggles, and a towel at practice every day. No need to bring the kickboard and fins to meets, but your swimmer should have their competition suit (plus a backup), MHC cap, and two pairs of goggles for meets (don't worry, we will remind you).
3. Where can I get this stuff? We will have a gear swap the first week of practice. Bring your old gear (if you have it) and pick up some new gear! Want to shop new or get set before practice starts? Check out our SwimOutlet shop HERE. We get a small amount of the purchase price back to our team! Also, be sure to stop by the gear swap table where we will have unused previous season t-shirts for sale for $5 each. Money goes directly to the swim team account to fund coaches' salaries, bonuses, and fun team activities.
3. What time is practice? Check out the practice schedule HERE.
4. Can my swimmer attend a different practice than their assigned group? This is not preferred. We understand that it is difficult to have children in different age groups/practices (every parent with more than one child has been there!), but unless a coach specifically approaches you to put your child in a different group, we recommend that they stay with their age group. It promotes team building (especially with relays) and encourages the social aspect of summer swim that is so important. Note that this summer LP practice will run simultaneously with 8 and unders.
5. What can I do to help the team? We are so glad you asked! We need volunteers ALWAYS. We are especially in need of Stroke and Turn judges (find training dates HERE) and social committee members. Love to plan a party? Willing to organize a team breakfast on a Tuesday morning? We need you! Shoot us an email ASAP.
5. Anything else I can do? We still need more sponsors! Sponsorship dollars provide advertising for your business and much needed funds to the team. Your registration dollars only cover a portion of our operating costs for the year. Sponsorship dollars help us to pay our coaches better, provide more fun social activities for the team, and "keep the lights on" for the swim team. Click HERE to see the different sponsorship levels.
6. Is that all? Reminder that Sport Fair will be at MHC on Monday, May 27 from 3-5pm with team suits for sale (along with other gear). This is your best opportunity to get a team suit without having to drive to Arlington (or search online). Further reminder that there will be a parent meeting at 5pm on Monday May 27 to go over general swim team stuff and where you will have an opportunity to meet the coaches, meet us, and ask questions.
Can't wait to see you on deck!
